Experience

[1] Developed a two-component force balance using off-the-shelf load cells complete with calibration rig, electronics, and acquisition software.

[2] Transformed a lab-bench prototype into a repeatable, practical, easy-to-use instrument, now marketed by TSI, Inc., as V3V. Winner of the 2008 R&D 100 award.

[3] Conceived and implemented a two-dimensional search algorithm on the order of 600 times faster than the customer's previous implementation.

[4] Identified potential issues with a customer's control software and reduced the tracking error in the world's fastest telescope mounts by a factor of at least 100.

[5] Managed firmware design and developed user-end software for custom acquisition hardware, both now parts of Measurement Science Enterprise's sensor systems.

[6] Executed several optical designs—from theoretical to limited to off-the-shelf components; also performed optical device evaluation.

[7] Conceived, designed, fabricated, and tested various optomechanical systems and components.

[8] Performed engineering design, fabrication, and field experiments for erecting small obelisks (3.5 and 11 tons) with kites, culminating in the History Channel documentary Flying Pyramids, Soaring Stones.

[9] Executed a feasibility study of the use of gas centrifuges for the separation of carbon dioxide from methane.
